Our Purpose

The purpose of Alpha Gamma Rho is To Make Better Men, and through them a broader and better agriculture by surrounding members with influences tending to encourage individuals endeavor, resourcefulness, and aggressive effort along lines making for the development of better mental, social, moral, and physical qualities; to promote a wider acquaintance and a broader outlook on the part of agricultural men through fellowship in a national organization that stands for the best social, mental, and moral development.

History of Alpha Gamma Rho-Iota Chapter

For over a century, the men of Alpha Gamma Rho have been shaping the legacy of agriculture and community at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From our founding in 1916 to today, we continue to uphold our ideals of scholarship, leadership‌ and service.

1916

Twenty-four University of Wisconsin-Madison agriculture students petition to establish the Iota chapter.

1940

After outgrowing our previous house, we purchased a new fraternity house at 1820 Summit Avenue.

1969

We moved to our current chapter house at 233 Lakelawn Place on Lake Mendota.

1988

Iota chapter co-hosts the 50th National AGR Convention in Green Bay, Wis.

1992

We became one of the first fraternities to completely ban hazing and implement an educational approach to member development.

2007

After a complete renovation, our Lakelawn house reopens with new amenities.

2016

We celebrate our Centennial anniversary at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Today

With over 1,650 alumni, Iota chapter continues to uphold AGR's values and make a positive impact on campus and in the community. We look forward to writing the next chapter.
